Proper foot care is extremely important for the diabetic patient. Diabetes may cause nerve damage that may take away sensation in your feet and may also reduce the blood flow to you feet. Because of these problems, small cuts or blisters may go unnoticed which may lead to serious, stubborn infections.
While under care of your podiatrist, it is also important to follow these guidelines to avoid serious foot problems.
- DAILY FOOT INSPECTION
- USE LUKEWARM WATER FOR WASHING (NOT HOT)
- NEVER TRIM CORNS OR CALLLUSES, SEE YOUR DOCTOR
- CUT NAILS CAREFULLY, IT IS BEST TO HAVE THIS DONE BY YOUR DOCTOR
- WEAR CLEAN, DRY SOCKS
- KEEP YOUR FEET WARM AND DRY
- DONT SMOKE
- GET REGULAR FOOT EXAMS
- CONTROL YOUR BLOOD SUGAR
